Dr Mostafa Movahedifar

Associate Research Fellow

After obtaining his BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Dr Mostafa Movahedifar pursued an MA in the Science of Qurʾan and Hadith at the University of Qurʾan and Hadith in Tehran. His MA thesis examined the methods of ḥadīth criticism used by earlier Imāmī scholars to assess the authoritativeness (ḥujjiyya) of ḥadīths. He then moved to the University of Birmingham for his doctoral research, where he completed his PhD in Islamic Studies. His doctoral work encompassed the development and testing of an innovative isnād-analytical method known as ‘bio-bibliographical cross-reference analysis.’ This method was designed to investigate and determine the date and origin of Imāmī ḥadīths, drawing from the development and transmission history of Imāmī ḥadīth during the formative phase of Twelver Shīʿism. At Al-Mahdi Institute, Dr Movahedifar is an Associate Research Fellow. His research interests include digital humanities, ḥadīth dating, isnād-cum-matn analysis, the development and transmission of Imāmī ḥadīth, and Islamic Messianism.
