Tuesday 4th June marked the end of the blessed month of Ramadan. The Eid al-Fitr celebrations at AMI began with the Eid prayers and sermon by Shaykh Arif Abdul-Hussain followed by families and friends enjoying lunch together.
Shaykh Arif’s sermon focused on the importance of unity amongst all Muslims, regardless of differences between sects. It is evident through the lives and conduct of the holy Imams that they would not endorse the divisions created in their names. The Muslim Ummah is akin to the human body; when one limb is hurt, the entire body feels the pain. It is now time to put aside any ritual practices or juristic rulings that create disunity and come together as one community. At times our intuition and common sense can guide us better than years of pedantic studies of legal theory and jurisprudence. It is the grass-roots who can bring about the change that we desperately need.
