On Saturday 22nd August 2015, Al-Mahdi Institute held a Garden dedication ceremony in the loving memory of Zulqarnain Ladak (1988 – 2003) inviting neighbours, local communities, AMI students and faculty and the general public. With beautiful weather and an impressive turnout of over 150 people, the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all present and allowed the local communities and neighbours to finally enjoy the gardens and get to know more about the Institute.
The programme initiated with the recitation of Surah Waqi’ah followed by a speech by Shaykh Arif Abdulhussain recognising the selfless commitment and contribution of Mr Jaffer Rajpar and Mrs Safiyah Rajpar towards the designing and landscaping of the gardens. A plaque was also presented on behalf of all at Al-Mahdi Institute to Mr and Mrs Rajpar to thank them for their hard work and efforts towards the gardens.
There was also poetry and speeches by members of Zulqarnain’s family, dedicated to Zulqarnain, celebrating his life and the contributions he made to each person in his life. Mr Jaffer Rajpar also delivered a speech thanking his family, friends, volunteers, Al-Mahdi Institute and the Balsall Heath Forum who donated flowers and plants and were the main laborers in the AMI Garden project.
The ceremony drew to a close with refreshments and congregational prayer.
AMI is currently running a sponsorship scheme allowing the dedication of a feature of the garden such as flowers, trees, benches etc in the name of a loved one.
