AMI hosts volunteer training session for Christian priests and students of USPG

On 23rd July 2017 AMI hosted a group of Christian priests and students of religion who were visiting from USPG (United Society Partners in the Gospel) - an Anglican mission agency supporting churches around the world in their mission to bring fullness of life to the communities they serve.

The group were preparing for a 'Journey with Us' volunteering programme to live and work overseas for up to 12 months aiding outreach work in the respective communities. The visit started off with a tour of the Institute by Shaykh Mahmood Dhalla, who gave an excellent tour of the multi-purpose prayer hall, grounds and the library, engaging in discussion throughout the way. After which the delegation proceeded to a classroom where a presentation on 'what Islam is' was presented by students of Al Mahdi. It started off with what the etymology of the word 'Islam' is, proceeding on to the pillars of Islam, the notion of God, the Prophets, the Quran, and the 'last day'. Following from the presentation, Shaykh Mahmood, and AMI 4th year student Sayed Ahmer Shah gave valuable input in answering various questions.  The discussion continued during dinner, with many topics touched on such as 'Gender in Islam', 'Race & Slavery in Islam' amongst other contemporary discussions.
